hoods are tricky parts to get right. I had my old hood just right then removed it for painting and replaced it with another one. Now I can't seem to get it right.
In order to lower the hood, I had to raise the mounts! In your case, I'd look at the fender/apron mounts. I don't know about the older ones, mine's a 73 and has three bolts that mount the apron and fender holder and that holds the hood mounts.
If your's is like that, I'd look at the apron mounts and maybe use some fender washers as spacers.
I thought of that - why I asked. It seems like some shims, washers would do, might do the trick. Hinges have seen better days, at least the passenger side. Hood blew open on the highway one night. That'll wake you up in a hurry, let me tell ya!

I have a 68 F100 that had bias and radial tires mixed because of a flat and I was in a hurry to get across town. I floored it thru a residential area and the hood flew open at about 50 mph. BANG! then I slammed on the brakes with mixed tires and slid all over the road. Scarry stuff! You can't see anything once those hoods fly up!
