cab rust
Hey. I am going to repaint my 77 f250 here in the next few months. My dad put all new doors, fenders, a hood and box on in '92 and they are all still in great shape. The cab is in good shape, no rust,on the outside. Now on the inside its starting to go. Theres rust under the drip rails, not alot, but there is some bubbling along the seams. And some rust under and around the front and rear windows, but thats not a big problem. Its the drip rails that are troubling me. Has anyone removed them before? I know its only spot welds, but my concern is what i might find underneath. A couple friends have suggested splicing in a new roof/upper cab section, but the rest of my cabs in good condition. Im not going to use por 15 on it, i want to eliminate the bubbling and bring it back as close to factory condition as possible. And thoughts or advice would be great.

Are you talking about rust on the drip rails and under the seal sealer? You would need to dig the seam sealer out and blast it. If there is no seam sealer and it is rusted but still sound. I would use some of the POR-15 puddy. Blast it if you want before hand even though it is not supposed to need it. I used it on mine and it works great.
It would be really dificult to remove the upper roof at the seams. It would take months (a lot of time) but it could be done. It would be easier to seam the roof below the rain gutters.

Hi Mike, I have the same problem with a 71 cab. Have been thinking about replacing it. Let me know what you decide to do. On this truck I replaced the doors and floor pans. I painted it and a few years later, rust started showing on the bottom of the drip rails. It must have been working on the inside all this time. Don't know the history, I saved it from a wrecking yard.
