Tranny swap?
#5
Sugardaddy, you'll have to find a trans tunnel ( hump ) from a 4 speed truck. The tunnel in 4 speed and C6 equipped trucks is taller to allow for the additional height a larger trans. It's also removable where as trucks that came with 3 speed, MX or C4 transmissions are not. The cab floors in all of these trucks are stamped with the outline of the taller tunnel no matter what trans they originally came with. You can also use a tunnel from a 73 - 79 truck or cut a hole in one from a C6 truck.

In cars, they can be a direct swap. Since the 303 in trucks might vary a bit from the car model, you'll need to check input shaft length and spline, overall length, output spline, and mount position.

David Kee Toploader Transmissions, Inc.
Check out ID charts, including "toploader imposters". These are 4 speed OD transmissions that look just like a performance trans. Beware, they are geared a bit worse than the 303 for 2nd to 3rd, 4th is OD, and they are not terribly strong, especially 4th gear.
Be sure to get the wide ratio--a 2.32 first gear is a bit tall in a truck although you might like it.....

sugardaddy601 In real time all the 4spd is going to do is give you 1 more gear to change before you get to high gear. Both are 1 to 1 output trannys.

Yeah John I've seen a couple that were transplanted. Some C6's that were used behind 300, 302, 351 and 460 engines have stiffener ribs cast into the top of the case. I'm not sure if they would clear a stock floor pan.
