I am so grateful to all of you who posted such loving comments about Mark and his unique personality. He certainly is loved by many including me. I have been caring for Mark for the last several months while he has been struggling to keep his "blind optimism" for life. I met him online in January of 2000 and it has been an experience to know this man. His sense of humor and quick wit is charming, and he had me "hooked" with his first few e-mails to me.

I was so blessed to have been with Mark not even an hour before he was found not breathing. I will cherish one of his last statements to me that day and I quote "I love you Pattie, and thank you for taking care of me". Little did I know that those words were some of the last I would hear from him. My heart is broken and there is a huge hole in my life where Mark used to be because he was a "one of a kind" character. But, if it is any comfort to those of you who loved him too, I fed him his dinner, combed his hair, gave him a massage, and offered to give him a ride in his wheelchair after bringing him a portable oxygen tank. We laughed when I spilled beans on his pants while feeding him and almost broke his bed when I tried to get in bed with him.

I am holding onto those last moments with him as treasured memories.
