I've seen cracking in areas where the engine heat rises. I wonder if this is the hot spot on the hood. Do you have a insulator under the hood?

When you say you see the primer under the paint, the primer should be stuck to the paint. It should be bonded and not seperate. I'm thinking something got between the primer and the paint (oil, moisture...)

Is there any body work under the cracks?

theres not any body work under there i did have to sand off all the old chipping clear coat but thats it maybe it was moisture when i was doing the job on the roof in few little spots i had like bubbles and around one of my mirrors on passenger door but most of them layed down the guy coaching me said he thought it was the paint but my first thought was moisture maybe he didnt want to admit he had water in his lines or something but anyway the bubbles were the size of a ballpoint pen and in a small cluster if that helps do you know anything about modified acrylic enamel most people i talk to havent ever heard of "modified" but they know about just acrylic enamel thanks karljay i really appreciate your opinion ive read alot of your replies and i know you know what your talking about

thanks Dylan J

I've never heard of the mod paint before but it could just be a term used by the paint supplier. Moisture in the line is a real killer! I painted a pair of fenders and a door when I was connected straight to the compressor and it caused some damage. I later went with a secondary air tank and 4 different moisture traps and it really made the difference.

If you ran straight from the compressor without any moisture traps then you probably got some in the paint. The air really needs to have a chance to cool and then go thru the moisture traps that's why I use a secondary air tank that sits 25' from the compressor.

Maybe it was the same paint that ford used in the mid 80's. about 4 years after I bought my truck, the paint started peeling off. A couple of years after that it started coming off in sheets the size of my hand. I never did find out what was the deal with that and I never got it repainted. It's way due now.
