I need to replace both floorpans on my 79 F250. I don't know how to weld and the local body shop wants close to $800 to do both sides. Is there another way i can do this?
Yes. 3M makes a product called sturctural adheisive that is used in place of welding. It's a 2 part epoxy type compound that costs about $20 for two small tubes.
It was accepted by some auto agency as a suitable replacement for welding panels after they tested it for strength against welding.
I used it on a roof support and it's VERY strong.
You should make the cuts so that you have a good overlap of about 1/2" or more. Clean the surfaces very well and ruff them up with a 36 grit paper or scratching awl. I coated mine with epoxy primer (DON'T use regular primer, epoxy only or clean steel) then scrached with 36 grit then cleaned with acetone then applied the adhiesive then clamped it together for 1 hour.
