As some of you may have seen in a previous post I have built my own bed for my 55 F100. I constructed two roll pans, one that has a recessed license plate mount and 4 tunneled mounts for tail lights that I found at a Kenworth dealership. The reason I made two roll pans? The first one was really a trial run to see if what I had planned would even work. It turned out well enough that it didn't deserve to be thrown into the scrap pile. I set it up with the four tunneled lights.
The second roll pan has a recessed license plate, but I haven't made any decision on tail lights.
As you can see it's a clean slate. So I would like some input on what type of tail light you think would look good in a pan constructed this. Sooooooooooooooooooooo, input, I need input!!!!!!!!!!!
One other consideration, is that I intend to run led lights in the end of the bedside roll with brake and running light function.
I've had several suggestions from friends, but none have "tripped my trigger" yet.
How about some LED lights behind a sheet of smoked plexiglass that matches the curve of the roll pan? Be very clean and "hidden"
Very nice work on both!
For the tunnel light, if showing from an angle is a problem, how about a domed lens on the end? Doesn't have to be a half spear or go out very far, just enough. Could even put slots in the tube for the light to shine through on the sides... lol this is giving me a lot of ideas to play with on mine!
Some quick photoshops...
Have a lens made the same shape as the end of the bed:
Dome light, or slice in the tube to make it visible from the sides... which I am going to toy with this one cause I think it be neat on my truck when I got that far:
Would the tunneled lights show from an angle? That's the only concern there might be.
These tail lights are actually glass cab clearance lights. I discovered these rambling through the chrome and goodie shop at the kenworth dealership. They also had the stainless bezels. I made a socket base that has studs mounted on it that will allow me to move the tail light in or out of the tunnel.
You may be able to tell in these two photos that the light is at different depths.
I thought that this might be a concern, but a lot of the custom tail lights don't really show from the side anyway. I may think of a way to disguise
a side marker light.

Exactly the kind of input I'm looking for. Thanks...Just hoping that some of the suggestions I get will give me that Aha!!!!!!!!! why didn't I think of that, moment. I like the side slot idea in the bed roll!
I was really afraid that nobody would touch this thread with a 10' pole, but heck, you know what they say about opinions.
I love the lights you have on it now. But maybe get rid of that extra lip and just leave them resessed. And for the bed roll lights wire them up for running lights/blinkers and have them blink in oppsite with the tail light blinker. So it's top-bottom-top-bottom... etc.
I think there are lights and light strips in a variety of shapes and sizes available that cab be flush mounted and then sanded down to exactly match the contours of the roll pan. Take a look at some of the high end shows cars over the last several years and you see what I'm talking about.
I think they even went through the whole process on one of the episodes of "Trucks" last season.
I can't wait so see what you come up with, you do great work
Bobby

I'm going to keep the four light pan. The lips were left long so that I could make a decision how I wanted them to mold in. They won't stick out that far in final version. I'll probably copy the look of my frenched antenna. Wiring the tail lights and bed roll lights to blink alternately would be "trick".
Thanks

You won't get any flack from me! I'm open to all suggestions. Those Impala tail lights would probably have to overlap to even fit on the pan, not to mention might be hard to come by. The thought that counts!!!
Thanks

The flush mounted lights were my first thought. I've looked at them and they may be what I ultimately use. I just thought I would throw the question out there and see what comes back.
Thanks....Andrew
By the way, to all that wonder why I'm working both pans, I like to change things up from time to time. These pans bolt on and I intend to wire the lights with a quick connect so that a pan change could be done rather quickly. Heck.... I even got 3 grilles, stock 53, modified 53, and a stock 55, and I'll probably set them up for occasional change out. Lets me change the look without a lot of effort.
