True, but around here we're always in the field by mid Feb. Nobody has been able to do any field work yet, and the necessary work is not getting done. Did I say I hate winter?
Hey all. Figured I'd say a couple things before I bowed out. Congrats on the ACL position. I've enjoyed my stay, but it's time to move on. I cancelled my Oregon membership, and am trying to get admin to find a way to cancel my FTE membership. I've had fun chatting with you all, and sharing stories. If I make it to the Governors race, vote for me, if not, that's cool too.

Was it something I said?
Joe, I don't know your reason for wanting to leave, but some times it's necessary to step back from things for awhile. I wish you'd reconsider leaving for good. Maybe take some time away from the forums for awhile.
Your knowledge of the Big Job Fords is appreciated here on the forums, and I'm not the only one that wishes you'd stay! If you do leave, rest assured that there is always a place for you here in the Oregon Chapter. If you would like to talk, just PM me, and we can discuss anything you'd like. I'd like a chance to talk you into staying. Don.
I guess when the guy said he was leaving he meant it, not even a reply. Whats the ACL crack all about? I think that all should have their say, but leaving a cryptic statement like that and pulling off the whole FTE is kinda uncalled for. So here is your chance to tell us what ticked you off enough to leave and then if you still feel that way go, but dont leave the guys that have been here for a long time thinking it was something they said.

Easy fella..............I've known Joe for years. He is into 53-56 Big Job Ford Trucks, and has a lot of knowledge to share. He has a great rep in the 48-60 Forum where he spent a lot of his time helping others.
Every so often a nu-bee comes along and acts like they know it all, and this has happened several times in the past month to Joe and he'd had enough. With a little luck he'll cool off and be back helping again. If he doesn't come back it is a loss to everybody.
And the CL "crack" was not a crack at all. He was just congratulating Dave.
Don't take this post the wrong way. You are new here and don't know a lot about us Old Farts!
Ok Don, I'll back down, didn't like the ACL crack. Hay maybe he was talking about a ligament instead. As for the guy leaving with all that knowledge, bummer. I hate to see anyone leave after being flammed. By the way I wasn't yelling( would have been in caps) just wondering. The other reason was no one was using the March discussion because I think they were waiting for a reply from the guy, just breaking the ice. And I am not the subject matter specialist on my truck, if I was I would not need to ask so many questions .
On another note, been having problems with the olds 330 in my 62. Yep, there your problem ,what is Olds doing in a Ford. It's been idling bad and today I finally broke down and did a compression check. Found number 6 cylinder down at 72 PSI, the other were within 15PSI of each other. This touched off a debate inside my head, well should I tear into it or go find a 292. Well I figured hey ain't going to cost me to see whats causing the problem. I got the head off and the cylinder was perfect no scratches. I'm praising God for that one. So I turn the head on it's side and dump water down the intake port and find water seaping around the seat. Man was I happy to see that, instead of a section of the valve burnt out. Looks like something at one time got into the intake passage and got pounded down by the valve and seat but stayed there. I don't think this engine has ever seen a mechanics shop before gauging from the amount of sludge in the gallery and on top of the heads. The oil pan was of last week and had a layer at the bottom.
Which brings up a good question, what type of oil are you guys and gals using in your engines? I talked to a guy a couple of weeks back and he said Delco 400 was the only oil. He said he had used some other brand and it failed and burnt the engine up. I wish I could get ahold of some milspec 9250 heavy duty detergent 30W. When overhauling Caterpillars that used it there was absolutely no sludge inside the engine, all you see was bare metal.
I use Delo 400 in my gassers, and Mobil1 in my diesels. My son Harley has a 61 Uni that we have been working on for several years. Finished up the chassis and engine/trans last summer. This summer we'll finish up the body and get it back on the road. This is what it looks like now.
Do you have any pictures of the back motor mounts? What type of tri-power does the engine have on it? Looks like you guys are doing it right the first time. Is it going to be lowered?
I put Mobil 1 in my Jetta TDI, and the Dodge gets what the dealership gives it. The others get a mix, but with what I've found in the Olds I think i'm switching to Delco all the way. Visited a website last night where they were talking about sludge buildup. The said you could run the high detergent diesel oil in a gasser for about 500 miles, before needing change. I'm thinking about doing it as a flush on this engine, of course after I scrape out what I can. The valve guide seals were in in chunks inside the springs.
With the geographinc isolation of the area that we live in I'm glad I went into the engine. Sure enough I would have been half way between Mount Vernon and Bend and she would have gone out on me.
