I earlier posted a a thread about bump stops, on the steering and asked if any body knew of a way to adjust the steering stop. Nobody did. My tires are rubbing the leafs at full turn, and short replacing with yet another set of wheels trying to accomodate the back spacing, Im looking at drilling and tapp ing the steering knuckles and installing a nut and bolt in the freshly drilled and tapped thread. Thus setting it up much like ford used to when they were using the DANA 44 front axles. Any opinions or suggestions, or has anybody done this before?
Mine is a 96 F250 4x4 Twin I-beam. I cant see any reason it wouldnt work, but thought Id ask around first. I figure a 5/16 bolt and jam nut and that would be fine. Drill in the knuckle so it contacts the housing between the ball joints, and it would allow for adjustment.
Im surprised no one else has had problems with bigger tires rubbing on the springs. Right now Im running 35's w/ a 4" lift and they hit on the front and back of the springs at full turn. That and w/ brand new BFG AT's that could be expensive both on tires and leafs if it hangs up hard on tread.
I have problems with mine rubbing the leafs. Ive never thought about adding stops. I dont see why it wouldnt work, sounds like a good idea too me. I plan adding wheel spacers to solve my problem, plus help with looks a bit.
I'm not so sure 5/16 is big enough. My trucks not here so I can't go look, but I think the bolts are 7/16 or maybe even 1/2. I have to go out there on Wed and I'll take a look and take some pictures. I had 35x12.50's with the TTB 50 and they didn't rub ever. It just depends on the offset or backspace.
Im not sure but I want to say the ones on my old DANA 44 were somewhere between 1/4 and 7/16 at the most. 1/2 I think would be overkill, besides in theory they are being pushed on (compressed) not pryed or sheared so diameter really doesnt matter too much. besides were only talking like a 1/2 spacing between the knuckles and housing anyways. And even with my current back spacing oon the wheels the tires still stick out like 3" beyond the fender.
