Ok guys, i have a 94 f-150, it seems to be rusting from the inside out, above the rear wheelwells and right at the very back where there is a structural brace. is there a way to stop the rusting, and cover it up some how??? Its not that bad yet, it just looks like surface rust(but i know it isnt). I was thinking to get those plastic things to put around the wheelwells, and maybe a chrome jobby to run along the bottom portion of the truck. Any cheaper ideas??????
mine rotted allthe way out to crap. I got rid of as much rust as possible, coated it in hammerite or equivalent, bent up a piece of sheet metal aluminum to shape the contour, lumber locked it in. Then i used bondo ULTIMATE and shaped the wheel well. Then i painted the whole underside in hammerite. that stuff is the stuff.
No, you must treat the rust with something. For light surface rust I use phosporic acid from home depot for about $8/qt. I sandblast or wire brush the area and then clean with acetone then spray on phosporic acid (called prime and prep I think). Then it dries overnight and I scuff, clean and cover with filler or epoxy primer.
The point is that you must treat the rust, covering it up won't make it go away.
How can you treat the rust if its rusting from the inside out?Im positive that the rust started inside the wheel well. I finally got my ranger today...yippy Now i have to sell the F-150.
