Anybody running the DPF-R dpf delet on there truck? It says it is no more tracable than a scan tool... it resets the re-gen counter, but wouldn't that be a red flag to the dealer?
The way I heard it, is that there is no real way to avoid the computer keeping a record of changes made, even temporarily to the programming. If you set it all back to stock when you bring it in, they probably won't care provided it is not something major, like a blown turbo or a hole in the side of your engine block.
Thats the up side of this module, it doesn't reprogram the computer. The problem with just takeing the dpf off and not reprograming is it automaticlly goes into regen every 300 miles or so if it needs to or not, its a safety thing so it doesn't kill the dpf by mistake. The dpf-r simply resets that mileage every time you start your truck, and with no clogged dpf and no default re-gen nothing's telling the computer it needs to re-gen. Granted if you drive 300 miles without shuting the truck off it'll re-gen but all you have to do is shut it off and turn it back on. Its basicly a permenant scan tool the way i understand it, only earaseing the re-gen related codes.
Dpf-r I had one my truck and when I got the radiator and reflash done I took it off and put it bback to stock. The dealer never said a word about it and did the work.
What happens when you break down away from home? Do you carry the DPF around in the bed of the truck?
I guess I am too old and not much of a gambler it just doesn't seem worth it to me. Just my two cents.
My understanding is that there isnt much benefit in just removing the DPF. Sure it is somewhat restrictive but so far everyone that has reported on them didnt see any gain and opted for a tuner later on. If I were going to risk the warranty I would go all out with a programmer to get ALL the benefits. I wouldnt risk the warranty for 1 mpg and no extra power.

Only because they werent looking for any problems. If you had an engine problem they would have counted your regens, warm up cycles, # of flashes, etc. This product will not throw a code and no flashing red lights go off when you enter the dealership. If the dealer has no reason to monitor your useage they wont.
Im still waiting for someone with a tuned truck to blow a turbo, engine, whatever and then see what happens. These trucks are so tough that they arent breaking though.
It sounds great to say the dealer never detected this when you took it in but also consider that if your truck was 3 quarts low on oil they wouldnt have detected that either. Things like the radiator and reflash dont require full diagnostics...... or any diagnostics for that matter.
Regen frequency varies a lot based on driving style and use of the truck. There is no golden rule as to how frequent or infrequent it should be. I saw in your other post that you have black tailpipes, but is it HEAVY soot or just a little black? If it is heavy soot then you may have a cracked DPF and maybe this is affecting your regen frequency.
How much soot is heavy soot? My tailpipes are a black, but with 24k miles, what is normal? Should I clean them out and see how much accumulates over a period of a week/month? Is the dealer the only one that can check if the DPF is cracked?
