Ok, 2000 expedition 4.6 2w drive. This started today, after I passed a slower car, don't know if that has anything to do with it or not. Start engine runs fine, idle about 600 or so, press brake put into drive, idle drops engine stops. It will start right back up if you hold the gas pedal down it about 2000 RPMs it will idle in drive real shaky, sometime it will rev up a little. As far a driving it it seems fine no loss of power or hesitation until you come up to a stop light, you have to keep the gas pedal depressed a little to keep it idling. Thought it was the IAC, replaced it, does the same. Check the voltage at the TPS,DPEF sensor voltage inline with was the manual says, cleaned the EGR valve MAF sensor. Also checked PCV valve. Still doing the same. No codes showing. I am out of ideas.
When you had the IAC off, did you look at the passages to make sure they weren't plugged up? Other than that, it sounds like a spark plug or COP isn't working.
SINCE your looking for ideas, here are a few to try (some may be way out there, but are worth a try)..... I will assume that your 00 4.6 is the same as my 99 4.6 (except for the COP??)
Check the EGR Valve function...
* Take a vac pump (or even a 3 ft piece of vac tubing/fuel line + mouth) and apply vac.
* Engine should stumble and almost stall. If this does not effect the engine, then your EGR port is most likely clogged..... I did this over the weekend, will post pics..removed ALOT of black carbon crap (about the volume of 3 or 4 cough drops)...
Ignition system
* Check for 4th of July show under the hood on a really dark night (no street lights),,as your rev the engine..... could be part of the problem... and looks really cool if its grounding to metal or each other...
Thanks for the replies. Found out its the transmission, torque converter is not unlocking. When you come to a stop feels like you are not pressing the clutch in. Broke down took it to the Ford Dealership
