Egr
I was wondering where the "EGR Valve/ Sensors" are located on the 7.3 liter engine? What are some early indications/signs of a EGR going bad? Will I be able to do the work myself? The reason I'm looking to replace the EGR is because I have 124,000 miles on my truck and it sound like I'm having some circulation issue. It sound like something is preventing my truck from breathing freely. I'm also going to get a new CPS installed, intercooler flush, and a fuel induction service. I noticed some decreased in power, Miles/gal, and increase in EGT. Need help please
Any sounds suck as "circulation issues keeping your truck from breathing freely" will probably be associated with the EBPV (exhaust backpressure valve). The EBPV activates in cold weather to provide a load on the engine to aid in warmup. When it activates you'll hear a hissing noise. The noise should go away when you accelerate or when you tap the brake. If the noise doesn't go away when you accelerate, then the sensor tube (exhaust backpressure sensor helps to control the operation of the EBPV) is probably clogged with soot, keeping the sensor from reading proper backpressure. If the EBPV doesn't open up when you hit the brakes, then it's sticking closed and needs to be rebuilt.
Reduced mileage in the winter is normal. Winter blend fuel has less BTU's than summer fuel. Also the EBPV is partly responsible for loss of mileage as well.
