Question 1955 223 Distributor Question

I currently have my distributor removed and almost all the way disassembled for a full rebuild. I am following my shop manual, and I can't figure out how to remove the round plate on the inside of the Dist. This is the plate that hides the wiring inside the Dist. The manual just says remove. Can anyone explain how to actually remove it? It appears that the large nut which the rotor mounts to on the inside is threaded, but I want to make sure first before I tear something apart by mistake. Photos would be very appreciated.

Thanks.

It sounds like you need to remove the gear. The plate is part of the shaft, as far as I know
