will 315/70/17s fit on a stock 17/7.5 wheel i dont think ill have any probs with it clearing since i have a leveling kit on my 06 f250 jus wanna make sure b4 i buy. thanks
I was looking through the Goodyear catalog for tires... I noticed that for your size, Goodyear's "Approved Rim Widths" are 8.5 - 10, with the measured width being 9.5
The tire will fit, but you will wear them out pretty fast. Squeezing them onto a narrow rim like that will cause the tread to arch, wearing down the center block of the tread much faster, shortening the life of the tire. You can air down to relieve to load on the center block, but that comes with its own disadvantages also.
The choice is yours. If you want them to last you need to buy wider wheels or you can put them on your current rims and burn them up quicker.
im jus looking for a tire that will fill the gap alot better due to the leveling kit an the stock 265/70/17s are jus way to small and ideas? also trying to get a little height as well
It'll fit. I had them on stock rims for a few months. They do bow out in the middle. I have 8 inch rims now and they fit fine. If you can, go with a wider rim. Also, you can't run the stock PSI in this size because the max pressure for the tire is 50 PSI. This shouldn't affect your towing or load capacity, but it does affect milage and comfort--it kinda feels mushy. Next time I'm getting 305/70-17s for the ability to air up on the highway.
You're right that it doesn't affect your ABILITY to tow, but the rated load of the tire is at max cold psi. Anything lower and the tire's load capacity drops with it. My E rated Pirellis are rated at 3415lbs at 80psi. When I'm not towing I air down to 60psi since I'm not putting such a strain on the tires, but they're nowhere near their load rating at 75% of max air pressure.
By your logic I can air down to 10 lbs and still tow a 5er...
Not sure where you got the idea that my logic would say that. I was only saying that at max pressure you have the same load capacity in this particular d rated tire...nothing more. In fact, I agree with you. Both tires E and D rated tires are given a load capacity at max cold pressure. I recall a thread a few months ago (may be a year or two ago) where there was a great discussion on a load capacity chart for different rated tires. I really enjoyed learning about that. All said, I think you hit it on the head--make sure you get a tire that fits the fim you have or risk premature tire wear.
