My brakes are still dragging! At first I had no brakes so I replaced the busted master cylinder and brake booster, then my front brakes started dragging and I had no rear brakes. I've since replaced calipers, hubs, inner and outer bearings, races and seals, brake hoses, brake lines and proportioning valve and turned down my rotors and bled the hell out of my brakes. Now I have front and rear brakes but the are still dragging/ locking up after I drive for any period of time. What am I missing???? Could it be that I just got a bad proprtioning valve, it's new not a junkyard part? Is there anything I've overlooked? PLEASE HELP me get this thing back on the road!
Yeah, I bench primed it but maybe that's it, I guess re-replacing that will be the next thing I try. would not priming it cause the brakes to drag or lock up? When I first start driving it it's fine then as I drive they start to drag and lock up?????
Also when I went to replace the master cylinder someone had previously put on a master cylinder from an 74 or 75 f350 and a booster from a 75 f100 on it, my truck is a 78 f150 4x4 discs up front. I replaced the parts that were on it to avoid having to change brake lines to the other side of the master cylinder and so the rod on the brake booster would still reach my pedal, does this have anything to do with my problem????
there is an adjustment rod behind the master that comes through the booster. If I remember correctly, it is a threaded rod that sticks out and has a lock nut that you loosen then adjust in or out. When i put my last master on, i had adjusted this out too fat and it did what yours is doing. I would check that out, it is easy, just remove the two nuts holding the master on and pull the master away slightly, no need to remove the lines from the master. Let me know if this works!!
I had same problem also The rod between m/c and booster is adjusted out to far.like screamin t/a said.I think you should be able to push m/c on booster with out any preasure so try to adjust rod to you get something like that.
