hay guys need a little help. what kind of gas tank can i use to fit in the back frame rails. ive got a ls2 engine and had to raise the cab 2 inches for it to fit.
I also used the mustang tank however there are a few others on here who have used a van tank & bronco you can just about put anything as long as the measurements are OK. There is also a page that was on the forum that listed radiators, fuel tanks, steering columns and some other items that would fit these old trucks. When I get home I'll check the URL I have it downloaded on my lap top. You may be able to search for it its "Old trucks never die" I think.
I assume you might want to run an inside the tank pump with the LS2, is that correct? If so the Mustang may not work for you without modification since the fuel sending unit location is in the front lower section. It could be welded up. If you use an in-tank fuel pump you might be better off with a custom tank that includes the pump or else plan to modify whatever you use.

So let me see if I have this right, according to your profile you have a 1953? Why did you have to raise the body, so that you wouldn’t have to cut the firewall? Are the front fenders still going to align?
And you are using a LS2 engine, that according to cyber space is;
The LS2 crate engine comes complete with a composite intake manifold; electronically controlled 90 mm throttle body, fuel rail injectors.
I don’t know much about fuel injection (too old school) but if this is a fuel injected computer controlled engine, I think most FI engines use a in tank high pressure pump with various electronic controls so would you not have to use a tank that is for FI or can you retrofit a aftermarket FI pump and controls to any tank? And the usual dash gauge to tank sending unit matching tribulations?
I used a tank out of an 84 s-10 blazer on my 50f1 with a 350 TPI. Why did you have to lift the cab to use the LS. Look in my gallery for the pics on the gas tank install. RUSTY
This is the same Mustang tank that can be used for 48-50 trucks too?
I used the tank in my 50. I double checked all the measurements of the tank before i ordered it. It did fit. I would make your own measurements when making the frame. I used theirs for the first frame I made, then used my own for the second one, the second one being the only one that will fit my truck. I definitely learned from my mistake there...fortunately it wasn't an expensive mistake.
thanks for the advise i put a fatman front end in the truck. when the motor went in the oil pan has to set on top of the crossmember so i didnt want to cut the fire wall. all i have to do is raise the front cap and the bed to match the cab. hop i can go to a wrecking yard to find a tank again thanks and ill try to get pictures to show what i have
