power window stuck closed

Any suggestions on where to begin search out why my driver's side power window has quit working? All the other windows work fine. If I push the button in either direction I hear a clicking sound similar to the turn signal relay.

Motor might be done for. Take off the panel and see if the plug is gettin any power to it. If it is, you might need a new motor.

Could be binded somehow as well...gotta get in there to tell though!

If you are hearing a click-click-click in either dirrection then your motor is most likely ok, its just the "gear kit" inside-these are easy to replace and cheaper than a new motor, you will have to remove the motor though to service/replace the "gear kit" the kits are sold in most chain parts stores.

Also if it is the "gear Kit" you can use a 3/8" dia dowel to replace those plastic pieces that have broke. Mine broke several years ago and I used the dowel method and they are still working good.

This is great info guys. My drivers side window acts up from time to time. If I leave it cracked open and it sticks I can wiggle it to get it working. I'll have to pull it apart when it gers warmer.

Mine had quit working in the down position one cold morining on my way to get hardwood for the winter. It ended up being the switch, which came from Ford as a set, cost was like $76 from Y2K. You gotta figure the drivers window is the one that is always getting used and it only uses a small rocker style contact assembly that had wore out in mine. Just another possible cause.

Good Luck, at least it is not stuck open in the winter like mine was.

I do not have a fancy link like Jim does ( lol ) but isn't there a homemade fix for the door switch? Something super cheap with aluminum foil? Or am I just talking out of my rear end?

I have not had a chance to work on it until yesterday so here is what I have found out so far. The 4th relay under the driver's side dash is the one clicking. The circuit breaker in the power distribution block under the hood checks out fine with an ohm meter. I switched the three different relays under the dash around with no change. With a test light I can make the relay click by jumping the hot pin on the switch plug to either the down pin or the auto pin.

So if I understand this correctly do I have a wiring shorting some where between the relay and the switch? The one thing I forgot to check while I had the door panel off was whether the motor is getting any power when the switch is operating.

I think that fix is for the door lock actuator.

My back windows get stuck down on hot days (100+). After driving for about 15 minutes they will go back up. I figured the innards just got hot and expanded.
