Head options

I have a 390 that is needing to be rebuilt, both heads need to be completely rebuilt, both are stock 73 390 heads. I want to be able to run my 4bbl manifold with the larger intake ports. where can i find heads that will match this, preferably a set of heads that are rebuilt or aftermarket.I have one head that matches the larger ports of my intake, if necessary would like to find a match. I have not had much luck finding anywhere that has heads, any help would be great thanks.

How much money are you willing to spend on your new heads? Your reply will help get you a better answer.

Pick Your Part Auto Wrecking | Used Auto Parts ? ...Pick Your Part! go early and a few days before they have a half price holiday sale (aka Saint Patty's), find a set of C4AE-6090G, C6AE-R, C1AE-A, there are more I'm sure someone will chime in with a full list. Hide them and the go back on the sale day I have pulled 3 sets of C4AE's down in SoCal in the last 2 years.

Depends on what year they are. Get the numbers off the heads.

Well i ended up just having the stock heads rebuilt with hardened seats, i cleaned them up and threw some new paint on. My question is where can i find torque specs and what sequence to tighten the heads and intake manifold up?
thanks in advance

God lets hope so I usually work my way up the scale in 15 increments.(35,50,75,90) Also make sure the bolt holes are "very clean" and the bolts are oiled lightly so there is no chance of a inaccurate torque reading. Ths will also insure no gunk arises from the hole and makes a mess of the gasket sealing.

One other thing that wasnt mentioned! Take a thread chaser to the threaded holes on the block and take a rags and put ontop of the pistons as not to get any crap in the cylinders...after chasing the threads..Spray them out with a brake cleaner, and then use compressed air.. As not to get any false TQ reading from crap in the threaded holes!

No not the heads, but the intake manifold as he also asked about if you read the rest of his sentence. I usual snug all of them in at about 20 then go with the 35.

Heads are 75, 85, 95, 105 on my FEs. My 428CJ spec'ed that so I use it on all FEs.

I have got everything back together and got her running, timing set at 10 BTC. She will idol for days just fine, upon acceleration she backfires from the carb every time. What gives? i have tried the timing at a bunch of different settings and still the same outcome.
