I have a coolant leak, it looks like it is coming from the rear corners of the heads, but it is on both, so it must be leaking above and running down the heads, right? I took the air intake and degas bottle off today, and looked everywhere, but could not locate the actual leak. The heater and radiator hoses look fine. The only other thing to leak coolant on top of the motor would be the EGR cooler?? Or am I missing something else? It is so hard to check, as most of the motor is under the cowl (you know what I mean) and I really didn't want to remove the turbo today. Any suggestions???
The cooler supply hose should be red/orange or blue, about 3" long. It can be found directly behind the EGR down in the valley. The newer one is the blue hose. I still the the red/orange one on my truck. It will leak everyonce and a while, usually when its warmer (60deg) then turns cold (30deg). I plan on changing mine this spring. If you search the site, you will find photos and replacement instructions.
I looked a little better today, found the hose for the egr cooler, it is red, kind of nasty looking, so I bet that is the culprit, are they hard to replace??
Yes, I would (am) getting it from the dealer. I'll be doing mine this spring or next fall.
I have been saying that for the last two years though! It looks like a lot on the ground but the level in the bottle changes very slightly.
My truck now has 112K on the clock and I have not yet dug into the engine compartment (except for oil and fuel filters). I plan on spending a nice shade-tree weekend taking off the intake hoses and checking things out; the hose replacement will be on the list.
