I would swear I'd read a tech article, with pictures, on how to rebuild a toyota power steering box, but I can't find it.
Can anyone help? How about where to get the kits?
thanks a lot

I've never done it, but I know there are lots of good threads and atricles here on FTE about that.
Did you try the "Search this Forum" box in the upper right hand part of the forum list page? It wasn't working yesterday, but here, let me see if I can get a couple threads... nope still AFU!
yeah, I tried the search function a few days ago. I thought maybe I just wasn't getting the terms right. I was getting lots of threads on how to install, etc. But none to rebuild. Thanks for the bump.
BTW.... 4 am? Don't you sleep?
Saw this on Mid-fifties website, and thought I would add:
USED TOYOTA STEERING BOX. THE TOYOTA STEERING CONVERSION IS A VERY SIMPLE AND NICE SET UP IF
DONE PROPERLY. THERE HAVE BEEN ARTICLES WRITTEN AND INSTALLATIONS DONE
THAT UTILIZE THE FORD PITMAN ARM BY SQUEEZING IT DOWN ON THE TOYOTA
SECTOR SHAFT, LITERALLY SMASHING THE SPLINES TOGETHER. THE SPLINES DO
NOT MATCH.
DO NOT ATTEMPT TO INSTALL YOUR STEERING IN THIS MANNER
IF YOURS IS DONE THIS WAY AND YOU ARE FIXING EVERYTHING ELSE TO SOLVE
YOUR STEERING PROBLEMS, STOP NOW AND REPLACE THE PITMAN ARM.Core exchange $100.00
I didn't dream this. The instructions included a warning to open the box in a pan, cause all the bearings fall out. Thought I had it earmarked, but I've looked everywhere.
I posted that warning, but I have never seen any article on actually rebuilding the box. I'd take a box of donuts to the service writer at your local Toyota dealer and ask real nice if they would check their service guides for the rebuild procedure. If they find it, ask if they would be so kind as to print it out for you. Explain that it is not being used in a Toyota any more and that's why you are not bringing it in for them to do the work. Hopefully you'll find them to be a gearhead or sympathizer.
Hey, I have a factory service manual for my 84 Toyota pickup so when I get home I'll take a look and see if I can pull some info out of it for you. Please don't ask me about posting the diagram on here as first I wouldn't know how, second I don't have that kind of time. I could however photocopy the pages and send you the hard copies.
I do remember a thread about rebuilding the toyo box. I don't remember how long ago it was or who posted it..............(I've slept a few times and partied a bit since then...lol)
I did save this from the posting, it has some part #'s listed;
Toyoto Power Steering part #’s
So I think I can now say I've got it all under control with Toyota part #'s.
If you just want the Sector (Pitman Arm) seal the part # is 223210
If you want a complete seal kit for the Toyota box the part # is 8385 at Prosteering.com
The seal was tough to get by itself, even with the part # most places couldn't (or wouldn't) order it.
If anyone needs a Pitman arm seal or wants an entire reseal kit, let me know. I bought extra seals since my order went straight to Federal Mogul (through Rock Auto) and the s/h was outrageous so I figured I'd get extras since they didn't raise the S/H.
I also have a complete reseal kit available that I bought from Prosteering just to open up, get some part #'s and take some dimensions on the seal I needed.
I placed an ad in the classifieds, I have 2 extra Pitman seals and 1 complete reseal kit for sale. That was quite the Scooby Doo mystery, it only took 4 months and over a hundred bucks in parts to get the one seal I needed. But you know what, it was totally worth it. I carefully drove the new seal in and installed the box on the frame. I'm moving onwards & upwards from here!
Thanks Flatheadjohn. If you send the photo copies I will scan and post on here somehow.
Maybe I'm out here alone chasing chickens (wouldn't be the first time) but I'm not looking to put in new seals, I want to rebuild it with new worm and sector gears to get the play out of it. So far I haven't found those gears either.

Okay but I'll need your mailing address and we can do that through e-mail. Mine is flatheadjohn@gmail.com Is the box out of a 4 wheel drive or a 2 wheel drive?
