I saw a bed on Fleabay and the guy had mentioned the bed was good for 55-67. I figured the it would be 53-56. But are the stepsides from later trucks exactly the same?
I'm thinking maybe there may be some better deals out there for a new bed if I start looking in catalogs outside the 53-56 F-100. That and just out of curiosity.
As Jaye says, the beds are the same except for the height of the fender mounting. 53-56 are identical. 57-72 are the same structurally, but the same fenders mount 2-3" higher.

As original, that is correct. However...
In 1957, Ford obsoleted the sheetmetal used in 1953/56 Flareside beds, replaced it with the sheetmetal used in 1957 for use as service part replacements.
Service parts: Parts sold at the dealers parts counter.
So you might find a 1953/56 with 1957 fenders, bedsides or tailgate.
If you look up the fenders or any of bed parts in the 1948/56 Ford Truck Parts Catalog, you will only see 1957 part numbers.
1957/60's beds are the same, 1961/72's are similar, but use a different front panel.
The rear fenders are the same 1957/79.
The tailgates are the same 1957/72.
The correct Ford terminology is Flareside. Stepsides are GMC's or Chevrolets.
