What are some of the common vehicles that seats are salvaged out of to put in the 53-56. I though about a power bench or 60-40, but need to know some common vehicles to keep an eye out for.
A chevy II bench would probably fall in the catagory like trying to find any old part, either you cant or its shot. The ranger seats sound interesting if they fit right.
I tried a 60/40 bench out of a mid 80's caddy and it was way too much seat for me..
I ended up with a straight bench seat from a mid 80-s chevy truck and it sat well and was a breeze to install...see the article on the FTE tech article site or at http://jniolon.clubfte.com ...
I have a pair of 84 Tbird power buckets for my '56. I've only test fit them, and they appear to be a good fit. I like the center console switches for power door windows and more.
I am in the process of installing leather buckets from a 99 sebring convertable. What I really like is the belts are built into the seats. The newer chev trucks do this to. Try a bench from a chev 2500.
The seats from a mid-80's ranger will work.you just need to build a frame to raise them up a little.I used square steel tubing.they fit well and look pretty good.I have seen a 54 f-100 dopne with S-10 buckets seats also
I installed a pair of front bucket seats out of late model Ch**y van, and they were an easy install. Due to where I wanted them to sit I had to drill new holes in the floor, but I didn't have to build any risers or other brackets. I liked the idea of van seats, as they sit high enought to feel right in a truck. I looked at using the split bench out of a late model f series ford, but they didn't line up with the steering wheel in the truck. It probably would have worked if I was re mounting the steering column. I even took the retractable seat belts with shoulder straps from the van and built mounts to install them in the 54 F250. I feel a little safer that way. Its the only Ch**y stuff on the truck.
