Does anyone know how exactly to change the passenger compartment air filter. the person that had the truck before me smoked in it and i just would like to make the heat and air not smell like an old ash tray, any help would be appreciated
Are you sure your truck has the cabin filter? It was an option, but not very many trucks got it. There should be a removable panel under the passenger side dash on the a/c duct if you do have the air filter. If you don't have the panel, you don't have the filter. The filter assembly (if you wanted to add it) has been discontinued, so it's pretty hard to find. Shampoo the carpet and seats and air it out in the sun all day to get rid of the old smoke smell.
alright then i cant look rite now as it is dark but im really not sure if it has one. and i guess i could try shampoo, how hard is it to clean the air ducts?
Most of the stink is in the carpet/fabrics. I smoke a little in the truck and I recently detailed the truck. I scrubbed the carpet/seats with simple green and then vacuumed it with a shop vac and left the truck open in the sun all day. All the stink was gone. It would still be a good idea to clean the ducts, but you're mostly just gonna get dirt/dust out of them.
You can drop the glove box and spray your favorite deoderizer in the intake with the unit running and fan on hi
that will help for about a day, spraying a bunch a fabreez on the carpet would be a little better, but it just covers up the smell for a while. Just shampoo the carpet/seats. It will take a couple of hours to do a good job, or just drop it off at a carwash if you don't mind paying for it.
I used simple green cleaner/degreaser. If you don't like the smell of that, just go to home depot and pick whatever you like. Just do a small test spot under the seat to make sure it doesn't stain or lift the color. A big shop vac will make short work of it. Just pick a sunny day (if you can, depending where you live) so you can leave it open and air out/dry.
