My Excursion is a 2001 model. I am considering upgrading to the 2007 headlights from a 2007 F250. I have searched and researched alot of the threads on here, but I still have 2 concerns. The info refers to the 2005 headlight. Is the 2007 light the same as the 2005? They appear to be the same from the outside. My other concern would be doing the new wiring harness. Is it really as simple as plugging in the new harness, or is it much more involved?
the 05'-07' Headlights are the same . The wiring is basically just running the harness from one side to the other. You plug in on side to the factory harness. They will be a relay that you can mount or just leave laying, and 2 fusible links that go to the hot side of the battery. Other than that, its just the thing of trying to hide the wires and make it look factory.
If you look at my PDF for the 05 conversion (I call it the 05 because that was the first year they were available), I made up a relay harness for under $20 (not counting my wire). The harness is relay simple to make, two relays (high and low beam), a fuse holder and a couple of metripack 250 connectors. The connectors I used were capable of 15A each, which would be about 170watts per bulb if you could find them that hot.
I swapped to the 05 front on my 03 and just used these, work fine but the headlights arent quite as bright as I'd like, but I will fix that with a HID conversion once I get around to it.
Wow, i saw crum71's post and thought it was mine, but i was like wait, i didn't post that, and I'm not that smart, what the hell? Then I realized it wasn't me, just hte same avatar I use on another forum which got me all confused. Props for good info!
