ive seen some guys here drill holes on the drum brakes covers or plates (dont know how you call them), i guess this gives better ventilation, is it recomended? is there specific places (patterns) where the holes should be drilled?
Drilling drums is an old practice, and while it helps the drum cool, it is a little counter productive in that it takes surfae arear away from the shoe to the drum surface. Removing some of the surface will remove decrease the amount of friction that can be applied to the drum.
Drilling takes a bunch of work and is very veryy time consuming. In this amount of time, you can unstall disc brakes and probably spend about the same amount of money.
Disc brakes are cheap to maintian, and install. The benifits of the disc brakes is superior to any modified drum brake.
