I got a 1978 Ford F150 that has a box with herculiner (inexpensive, and thought it was ideal at the time) in it. The wheel wheels have discoloration (due to rust i think) and the whole inside box has faded. I put the bedliner in with my dad a year ago and should of paid more attention to prep work (major mistake, need slap on the wrist). Is their a way to remove this crappy coating? or do i just gotta put another coat on and deal with it?
I haven't removed any myself but Thought I'd give a suggestion or two.
Try using a "hot knife" (or a 3" putty knife and a propane torch) to scrap off the meaty parts and then wire brush the reisdue off. Or stop by a spray-in bedliner shop and ask them how to remove it. I'm sure they make a mistake or two and have to remove some every once in awhile.
i have the same problem. i thought i did enough prepwork but mine is still coming off. although it looks nice when first completed. it is in no way as tough as the spray in liner ( brother in law has the spray in). if someone finds a good way to get this mess off please let me know.
A cat tipped over some paint I had sitting in my bed and it lifted my sprayed in bed liner all the way to the metal.
I would just splash on some laquer thinner and cover it with some platic sheet for a day or so. I would not do this inside or anywhere near an ignition source.
