Does the cat rattle when you tap it? Bad cats will do that. If it does not, do what 1966Tbird said and cut it off to take a look. Leave the EGR hooked up. They sell kits to eliminate, but they cause check engine light problems. There are no performance advantages to removing it either.
Before going any further, check the codes and see if that finds anything.
there are 3 diff cat on it . when i went out plowing last night i unplugged the air mass sensor and the egr vaccum line and cut the muffler off and it ran alot better but there is still a little bog to it . i looked in the cat before the muffler and i only see the screen looking thing like bees nest. this problem is driving me nuts thanks for the info all . is there any info on what i wrote above thanks
blueox is right about it glowing cherry red. sometimes after it's gotten that hot, you can catch fire. seen it happen. but, from everything i've read about it, your cat is clogged. might as well change it out. heck, they even have scrap value. i think they're worth about $30 scrap. that'll help with your cost of buying a new one.
