1990 Aerostar. I'm removing fluid from an overfilled transmission and I was wondering whether it matters if you use the top or bottom transmission cooling line on the radiator. I'm planning on doing the gentle flush soon and thought I'd clear up that question (although I suppose its obvious) before hand.
One is return line the other is from the Tranny. I think the lower one is from tranny. Get yourself a 3/8 dia brass compression tee fitting, put this inline with the upper tube. Then get a 1/4 j quick connect fitting male & female from Hasco ( if you know someone who is a toolmaker they can get them really cheap), Otherwise use a lavatory mini ball valve. The end of the male fitting can be machined down to 3/8" dia. The female fitting is used as a plug. You can get some clear tubing & connect to this to drain your mercon down. I put an inline tap on my setup so I can control the drawdown of Mercon. If you use the ball valve, it will work as a tap also.

Thanks Aeroman. I'd like to see this set up if you can take a quick picture of it. Do you do this to keep air from drawing back into the transmission or is just to make it easy to do the next time?
Also - does it really matter whether its the return line or not? Its much easier for me to use the top line on the radiator.
