stuck in reverse

I have an 89' f-250 4x4 with 302. My tranny is stuck in reverse, but can move shifter into all gears resulting in truck almost feeling like brakes are on and stalls. There is a shaft bolted to the driver side of tranny with a sprocket on the outside end that is popped out about a half inch. does anybody know what it is? And can someone tell me which tranny I have? It is a 5 speed. I think it is the mazda model but not sure.

I did find out that I have the M5R2 transmission, and the likely cause is a broken reverse shift fork, which keeps it in reverse but also allows for shifting into other gears at the same time. Does anyone know if I can get to that without dropping the tranny? Also, why does this truck have an f-150 tranny, shouldn't it have the Z.F.? Will the Z.F. work with the 302? I would appreciate any help.

You have to take the tranny out and all apart to replace shift forks. The ZF will work with the 302. And no it wouldnt come with a ZF unless you had a 5.8L or bigger.
