Block Heater

hey Guys ,
I am happy to admitt that for long time I have ignored the Block heater to the point that I forgot that it had one. A friend reminded me of it .
I have been having strting issue in cold days there are some problem need to be fixed like glopw plugs and injectors.
The truck is F350 89 model, so yesterday I find the plug and pluged overnight. we are having 20 degree weather this morning I was eager to try it. I let the Glow plugs cyle till wts light gone off and the controller quite the clicking. and sure enough it started on the firts try.

That is lot of help
I have aquestion when I pluged heater I noticed that some antifreeze was leaking from the radiator cap.
Is that because the block is building pressure from the heat?

Thank you

Yes it is. Cap shouldn't leak. Check the hose connection from plastic reservoir tank to the radiator cap area for a leak. If not there and the cap is leaking then replace cap.

Or you have a bad radiator cap.

I use my block heater whenever possible, even though my truck starts great in all weather. Helps the engine warm up faster, which contributes to fuel economy and long life. There is a recent study in Europe that indicates a 15 percent increase in fuel economy over time and a 40 percent reduction in emissions by using a block heater regularly (IIRC).
