exp acting up

What would cause a 99 Expedition 5.4 4X4 with 220000 miles to not shift the transmission, engage 4x4, make engine idle at 1200 and effect the speed sensitive steering all while driving down the road. If I turn the engine off for a while it will go back to normal for 15 or so miles. I disconnected the battery overnight and has been good for the last 2 weeks until today it started all over. No codes from computer.

Thanks

A vacuum leak can cause all of those symptoms.

Thanks for that Alloro. I was thinking electronics, but the two other things I forgot to mention were the brake pedal was hard and the heater was acting weird. This would point more towards vacuum. I'll check it out. Thanks

The hard brake pedal is an indication of a leaking brake booster. That could be the source of your vacuum leak and since it has such a large hose going to it, the leak would be significant.
