This may sound goofy, but I read a post somewhere about a headlight or taillight bulb that burnt out, actually shorted out inside the bulb, and caused similar problems.

I've got a Chilton for our trucks that has the wiring diagrams in the back, fortunately by trade, I'm an electrician and know how to read them. I'll check it out per the manual to see if we're missing anything and I'll get back with you.

OK, according to Chilton, that line is fed from Fuse 7 (15 amp) in the power dist. box. It then goes to the Main Light Switch (Tan/Wht is the line, and Brn is the load; essentially to the lights). I would check at the Main Light Switch to make sure that you don't have a loose connection or a bad switch.

The book also shows a multi function switch (inwhich case I have to do more digging to find), but it also feeds some of these lights and the instrument panel turn signals. If you have those lights, then I would seriously doubt that your problem is here.

Hope this helps you some.

I don't think it is in the switch as i have part of the lights working. the only lights that have no power is the park lights. I also have power to the trailer plug. I am going to pull the four lights and housings to check for burnt wires. Thanks for all the imput

While you have the assemblies out, take a new bulb and rotate it to each light to make sure that you don;t have a shorted bulb. Long shot but the disassembly labor is already done.

one other long shot, Chilton shows the license plate lamps tied in the circuit...maybe toss an eyeball at them. Sometimes it's the seemingly innocent that causes the most ruckus.

I checked the bulbs and all were good. I gave up and took the truck to an auto electric shop today. I will let you know where he finds a problem. Thanks for all the help

just an update. I drove the truck to the auto electric shop, and he thought it was in the fuse block. Now he has the truck to a point that it will not even turn over or attempt to start. now i have to have the truck towed to another garage. I guess he may be a electric expert, but knows nothing about the diesel. Lesson is make sure you take your truck to a reliable diesel shop.

I hope he's willing to pay for part of the repair.
