Will try to keep this short. 05 F-250 V-10- on interstate with cruise set at 70. Cruise kicked off, speedometer dropped to 35-40 for a second, then back to 70. ABS light came on. Stopped at rest area, turned vehicle off then on, ABS light went off. Back on the interstate and 10 minutes later exact same symptoms occurred. Arrived at destination and turned vehicle off then on. ABS light went off.
Drove around all afternoon in town, no ABS light. Got on interstate and headed home. Drove for about 1.5hrs again with cruise on, this time the ABS light came on but speedo did not fluctuate and cruise stayed on.
Brake pedal seems a little spongy when stationary I can push the pedal all the way to the floor if I continuously increase pressure.
The brake pedal feel leads me to believe the master cylinder is going bad. The other symptoms lead me to believe there is an electrical problem. I did wash the engine compartment a week ago but did not use high pressure.
There were no codes. Light went out by itself and has yet to come back on. I am thinking master cylinder getting weak and maybe some moisture in a connector. Any input would be greatly appreciated.
My ABS light went out and has not come back on as of yet. I have not bothered with it since the light has not come back on. I am researching scan tools which will read ABS codes. Innova makes a model 3160 which wont be available for another month for under $300 which looks promising.
ok I am going to replace the vss and see what happens then, I know the one I put in my wifes ex was pretty cheap so it should be a inexpensie guess. let you know what happens.
More likely, the rear ABS sensor, the VSS, on top of the rear differential.
Changed the VSS on Weds. Seems to have done the trick. Thanks for the help.
P.S. A big thumbs up to Ed the FTEpartsguy. Excellant price and service. Purchased two sensors and four tie downs shipped to my door for less then the local dealer wanted for the two sensors.
