Head gaskets

I was doing some research before I attempt to install the ARP studs I just received and I came accross Hypermax new 500 series gaskets. It says that they do not have to be machined but yet they have wire rings. Has anyone used them or have any insight into good better best versus stock Ford gaskets?

Thanks

From what I've heard, the hypermax gaskets are more finicky when it comes to installation. They're good, but do not tolerate much, if any, misalignment during the install process. Most say the latest Ford HG are very good. Provided your heads and block are flat and the studs are torqued correctly, you shouldn't have any problem with the stock HG.

Suggest you do a search using "hypermax" and you'll probably get a lot of good info.

What are your future plans for the truck? Everything you see in my siggy and I'm still running stock gaskets putting down 508 hp. I believe Matt at one time told me that he would feel confident with stock gaskets to about 575-600hp, then you have to go a/m.

Thanks Tex.

And now to change the subject a bit.

So far all of my research has shown me that while doing the head studs I should also look into doing the EGR cooler delete and look into CCV vent reroute.

Any other things that I should research to do at the same times? Can injectors be done without removing the heads? Things like that.

Also I am looking to do the job myself and I am very mechanical but have never torn into an engine like this. I have looked but haven't found any instructions.

HAs anyone already done the job themselves? If so is there a step by step or a procedure around?

I would also look into doing a Fuel Regulated Return kit as well(specifically the one made by ITP Diesel). Rather you go modified injectors or not, the RR kit will eliminate the dead-heading that is associated with the 6.0 by supplying fuel to all the injectors, especially 7 and 8. Fluidampner would be another item I would consider and would be easier to do with the cab in the air. If your planning on doing modified injectors and/or a bigger turbo, your going to be pushing your peak hp/tq numbers higher in the rpm band and this handy dandy little item will help with engine harmonics when you start going higher up in that rpm band.

How big are you looking to go with the modified injectors? You may or may not need an a/m fuel pump as well.

I don't know how big yet. All I do know is that before I do anything I need the studs done. Also since I will be doing this I only want to do it once so I want to get everything together that I can do with the heads off.

Regulated return is definately on my list now.

Intake manifld gaskets L and R
Injector O-rings
Turbo oring (is this more than one?)

I'm deferring on this one to someone that has had personal experiance with this. I outsourced my headgasket operation to someone else. There are some things I don't mind doing myself, but there are some things that I just know better to let someone else that atleast has had the "experiance" do it right the first time(hopefully).

The dealer tech that replaced my stock bolts with ARP bolts said he didn't need to remove the injectors, so he didn't need new o-rings. The heads were pulled as part of the service. The original service writeup had indicated that these would be required, but in my case they weren't, as the injectors weren't ever touched. Hopefully this wasn't a short cut.... Seems to run fine.

Hypermax

Dont use the Hypermax. Stay with the stockers. I blew my Hypermax with ARPs at 32 PSI. I ended up buying a lift to do the thing my self. Hit me up on email and i can talk you thru just about everything. I also have a good cab removal write up.

Not surprised. Hypermax gaskets are extremely picky about installation.
