will a bad transfer case affect reverse

98 ford ranger 4x4 automatic 3.00. I have no reverse or minimal only on the jacks. Replace reverso servo oring , fluid good in tranny not metal gears are go good in forward. I have pieced partial post that said a bad transfer case can affest reverse. Any help

No, a bad t-case won't effect reverse. I mean no more than it would effect forward gears. At worst, it would leave with only 2wd. It would have to really be wipped out not even allow power to the rear wheels.

thx for the info. Any ideas on the 4 wh drive switch on the dash. No power and checked all known fuse

The 98's used the pulse vacume hub system, it's ver problematic as it gets vacume leaks and it's hard to pin point as even the hubs themselfs can leak. A simple fix is a set of AVM manual hubs from tellico off road. AVM is the only ones who make hubs for this system. There around 100.00$ and they do away with the vacume and give you the advantages of manual hubs. The other common problem is the electric shift motor on the back of the t-case. They can gum up or go bad from non-use, or just wear out.
