I have a 2001 F250 supercab longbed. It has a V10 Auto and 373 gear. I tow a car to shows and am looking at getting a 24 ft enclosed trailer. The trailer I am looking at weighs about 4500 and the car another 3500 for a total of 8000 pounds. Is this too much for my truck and should I look at getting a weight distributing set up and some type of sway control. I have been pulling it with a plain open trailer and it pulls it very easily, but I am unfamiliar with towing enclosed trailers. Any help appreciated.
Thanks Luke
The towing guide shows your truck rated at 10,500 for 4WD or 10,900 for 2WD. You should be fine with that weight. A WD hitch with sway control would be a great investment for tow vehicle stability and safety. Towing like you have in the past on the open trailer, you haven't been subjected to the kind of crosswinds and drafts from big rigs that you will encounter with the enclosed trailer. They will move you around quite a bit and it can be really unnerving.
