5.4 l engine, we haven't bought the trailer yet so not sure on the hitch, but our last trailer we towed with 1 sway bar and two long weight distributing arms with chains which so I will ask the dealer to set me up the same or better, how do I figure out the axle ratio... sorry love my truck, but a newbie to axles and stuff
There should be a tag on the drivers side door with the ratio on it. It sounds like you have a weight distribution hitch so you should be good to go. I pull a 33ft camper with my Expy (5.4L 3.73 rear) and I don't have any trouble with it. Good luck!
Your 33 foot trailer, do you happen to know the ballpark GVWR? We are trying to choose a used Prowler with no slides which comes in at around 6500 or at Starcraft with slides which comes in at around the 7200 mark, the new one seems a little heavy to me but probably just because I am not used to it.
The sticker on my driver door is rubbed off arrggg. I think these are the right figures for my 2000 Ford Expedition from the net:
GVW 7182
UVW 5068.8
GCWR 12973.4
Axle 3.55:1
5.4l V8 with 17" tires
BUT
When I use some of the safety tools on the net I get a maximum allowed trailer weight of around 5800 pounds. Most of the 30 foot trailers I see out there are in the 6000-7000 pound range, so what's up?
