Sealed Power# WH729CP. RockAuto.com has them. You should be able to buy or order one from your local parts store or machine shop.

Jason

thank you

and i'm sure its the ip, just remembered a little over a year ago a friend an i were on the interstate and the same noise happened in the 7.3 i replaced with the 6.9.

and is the only thing common with the 2 engines.

the 7.3 was a bit tired at that point and that may have saved the piston by blowing by the rings.

feel better now knowing that.

bet #7 is a bit worse than the others on that motor too.

Have you cleaned the CDR?

The CDR sucks crankcase vapor into the intake to burn instead of venting into the air.

Due to it's location at the rear of the intake throat, most of the oil vapor winds up in cylinder #7 and # 8.
The diesel is happy with the oil vapor, it just burns it as more fuel.
But with motor oil being a heavier oil than diesel, it contains more BTU's which make the two rear cylinders run hotter.

Looking at the piston skirts, are the piston oil jets installed and aimed correctly?
How was the oil pressure before you tore it down?

Fuel out of the IP weep hole is an indication of a dying IP.

Check to make sure the piston oil cooling jet is still on that cylinder, and is aimed properly.

I find it hard to believe that an IP could have anything to do with that.

With the way the skirt is damaged, it'd have to be a foreign object, lack of oil, faulty piston, wrist pin, con rod?

#7 and #8 get all the oil from the CDR if there is excessive blowby which makes for higher EGTs there, also IIRC there was something with the coolant passages around #7 that makes its life even worse.

cooling jet is fine, nothing in the pan to indicate something got in there and nothing to indicate anything got into the chamber.

i'm sure it's the ip, either excessive fuel or maybe a timing issue on that one cylinder (how i don't know)

the engine was fine then loud noise like a lifter collapsed or the timing went nuts.

anyway new piston and rod bearing on order and installing new/rebuilt ip.

will know for sure when i get the 7.3 apart because the noise happened on that one with the same ip also.

Hmmmm... Seems odd.

Looking at damage to the piston, It'd have to be Diesel Fuel Washing the oil off that Cyl?
IF You were dumping that much fuel in one cyl. You'd SURELY feel it running rough/bad on that cyl, immediately.

i'm leaning to a timing issue if anything but that brings me back to the ip and if it were fuel washing ip again.

i really don't think it's a heat issue more than resistance to the piston travel forcing the skirts against the cylinder wall.

the crown and ring landings above the oil ring are like new and are much narrower than the skirt diameter for just the reason for expansion due to heat. as we all know.

the flame pattern is pretty much the same on all pistons and heads.

just would like to thank everyone at this point for their input and help on this!!

#8 along with the 6 others are fine, there is zero to very little blow by and compression on all 8 was 475 before tear down.

oil pressure is good before and after tear down, for what that's worth with this stupid ford oil indicator gauge.

anyway i WILL be installing REAL oil and water temp gauges along with an egt gauge.

20, 30 and 40 over are the common sizes
110 over makes a 6.9 a 7.3 standard size piston
