Hello every F-100 owners i have a qestion for you.
I am from Sweden have a Ford F-100 -56 and i want to do new bedsides but the problem is the roll (pipe).
I see in a magasin or internet ican't remeber there that was a bedside with crome roll (pipe) in the top.
Is there anybody who has a idea or a picture , because the problem is to do the roll.
I would suggest you investigate electrical metalic tubeing known as EMT -- available at electrical wholesale supplier or hardware store.. this is a thin wall metal conduit that would be much easier to work with than heavy wall conduit or pipe..
You mighr consider welding smaller size tubeing to top of bedrail and slide larger size tubeing over smaller after you have cut a length wise slot and chrome plated it. ---
How about that, a tube inside a tube... Just a thought...
I would suggest using stainless tubing, a lot less maintenance that chrome. Figure out a way to have some tabs welding to the side, have studs welded to the underside of the box flange and bolt the stainless pipe to the side.
You are correct. The 1" SS tubing used in boating typically to build custom dodgers or canopy's would work well. As Bob suggested welding tabs to both would be a thought or perhaps just cutting a full length slit in the ss tubing that would slide over the edge after you bent the angle needed in the top edge of the new bedside. That would be easy to do with the sheet metal brake when making the new sides. Then you could tack or fully weld it in place. Since it will be a dissimilar weld, cs to ss, I would TIG weld with 308 or 309 rod.
