Another question for number dummy

I removed bad trans and bell housing from truck today, what I thought was a flywheel is actually a flywheel/torque convertor combo. Made the mistake of opening, made a big mess. Trans fluid everwhere. So I neeed to know a number for a replacement combo unit as the replaceemt trans I have has more splines on the input shaft. Thanks

61 trucks with auto trannys is almost unheard of. You would be about as well off looking for teeth in a chicken. One of them could drop an egg.

Different Input spline

I purchased a replacement ford o matic, instead of trying to get the old trans rebuilt. The two trans's are identical except for number of splines on trans input shaft. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

So would it be possible to keep the original transmission and rebuild it? It might be difficult, but it might be impossible to find the right flywheel and torque converter for the transmission you bought.

This guy might have something:
eBay Motors: 1957 FORD 223 6 CYLINDER ENGINE/MOTOR (item 140301742534 end time Feb-22-09 11:18:22 PST)

If it's the original Ford-O-Matic....

There is no flywheel (flexplate) per se. It's essentially part of the torque converter.

The torque converter's end cover has the ring gear on it. This is similar to what Chrysler used on Fluid Drive equipped cars for decades.

There are places (the Torque Converter Co, located in downtown LA, for one), that specialize in replacing the ring gear on the torque converter.

Look in Hemmings Motor News (hemmings.com) under Services Offered.

Correct the flywheel/torque convertor combo is one piece, the problem is that the internal splines do not match the replacement trans I purchaced.
So I either need another combo unit with correct spline count or a flywheel to match the trans torque convertor I have. The number stamped on the bell housing for the replacement trans is PAR-7975-A will that help any. Thanks

Look on the right side of the case below where FoMoCo is cast in an oval code for an ID number.

On the left side, behind the manual control lever, there should be a oval metal ID plate with the trans code on it.

The ID number will start with either I or P followed by two letters, then - then one or two more letters, like this: IP-L or PAZ-E.

Does that plate say FoMoCo on it? Prolly not as it was installed by a trans shop.

MDH isn't the code for any Ford A/T, it's either IP- or a 3 letter code beginning with P.
