I just got my truck back from my diesel guy and he told me that the fly wheel is coming apart . He also said there is a better than factory flywheel on the market. He said the flywheel has springs in it and it is common for them to fail .I was looking for anyone that has more info on this and maybe some advice .This is a new guy to me and i dont know him but he comes highly recommened from trusted people .Can some one give me a clue witch way is the right way to go on this . I am able to do the work myself but dont know if the new latest is the greatest

I know several people that have had problems with the dual mass flywheel and 2 of them have installed the flywheel made by Luk and have been happy with it.

Thanks I will look into the solid flywheel. Do you think the factory flywheel is not the only way to go .I am getting some vibration after I start the truck but it smooths after a few seconds . Is that a sign of a flywheel problem ?
the truck has 147000 miles on it and has never had any clutch problems so I dont think the daul mass is too bad, but I plan on keeping the truck for a long time and want to do the best thing I can to keep it trouble free .

Certus: The dual mass flywheel was used by Ford because they thought it deadened some of the gear whine from the transmission, which it probably did, but I'm not sure the results were worth the effort. I would say if there is a one piece flywheel available then that is the way to go. If you rebuild the dual mass flywheel it will ultimately fail again. It may be less expensive to buy a new flywheel anyway. Ford eliminated the dual mass flywheel the year they went to the 6 speed ZF transmission (98 or 99 I'm not sure which).

Hello,,I had a 95' F-350,,PSD,5 spd,,It had the dualmass flywheel,,dealer replaced it once, around 40,000 miles on the truck, It is a 2 piece flywheel,,the springs are in the flywheel,,instead of the clutch disk,,the springs get weak.
After awhile, you let the clutch out,,the truck was jumpy on takeoffs,,,, There is some sensor on it also,,a crank sensor I think,,several time , when I started the truck it would shudder and shake bad,, Well anyway,,I traded the truck at 56,000 miles and was doing the same thing again,,,My opinion,,A one piece flywheel would be the way to go,,,,Install a heavyduty disk and pressure plate the same time,,all new,,Mine was dual wheel flatbed dump,,she worked hard,,maybe thats why the trouble,,also had PSD trouble too,,Dealer did'nt know what they were doing ,,I think,,,,Good luck,,,,,Mark
