This was on the outside of the drivers side frame rail.
It appears to be something to do w/ the fuel system.
It was left in place but disconnected from the system. Yes they looped the hose back onto itself. The red wire that obviously goes to it was disconnected and taped off.
The fuel gage does not read the secondary fuel tank.
I'm going to make a wild guess and say it doesn't work but the truck works just fine with out it.
So, what is it, what does it do and what is the chance of replacing it if I can't fix it?
Thanks,
Mike...

Reason: Cant attach pics.
Unfortunately I don't know how to test it, other than the obvious - rerunning the fuel lines through it. And if it doesn't work, how to fix it - I opened it up and have a basic understanding and what may be wrong with it.
Well since it appears to be a bypassed fuel pump, and the truck is working ok with out it, with the exception of not knowing how much gas is in the secondary tank... I think we have established why it was there.
The only question is to figure out if it works or how to fix/replace it, and if its worth the trouble/expense.

You don’t have to hook the gas lines up to test the pump. Just hook the 12 volts back up, pull the hoses off and turn the pump on. Put your finger over the inlet and outlet and see if you feel any pressure or suction. If you do then be thankful that the guy looped the hose to keep the dirt out. Those pumps are getting expensive.
I haven’t used one of those Bendix pump for 30 plus years and if I remember right they have a brass bellows and have a tendency to crack and start leaking gas.
I use the Mallory pump on mine. I have the 460 and the stock pump will not supply enough fuel when pulling hard. The only time I use it is when pulling long grades or hard acceleration like getting into traffic from a side road or onramp. It is also great for priming your engine after the truck has been sitting for long periods.
It also makes it easier to start if you run out of gas a lot.
yes, you can post pics in the forums. since you already have your pics loaded to Photobucket just post the [IMG] code into the reply box. when you push reply the picture will show up.
