Thinking about getting a 7.3 Excursion - Opinions?
I'm looking at getting an excursion. I was playing on crew short superduty but then i found this deal, well i believe it to be a deal. I know the owner he said 11,500 and it's mine. Cars For Sale: Car Details - AutoTrader.com
Just bought an 02 two weeks ago with 115,000 and paid just over 12 for it. Love it so far, I do have to replace the injectors however, lucky I purchased a warrenty that will cover the cost. Keeping this in mind I ran 19 mpg at 68 mph. I hope to get this a little higher with the new injectors and a little tinkering. Can only say I love it so far.
and Oasis report would be a smart idea! I can't believe these get 20mpg, i'm sure if u chip them and do some mods right? What are the downs sides to an excursion as apposed to a superduty?

Only downside is PAYLOAD...which is a direct result of the softer springs Ford installed...which can lead to 'wander'.
What did I just say?...well the rear springs on the Excursions can cause handling issues if you tow heavier.
Do you plan on towing with this Ex?...if so...fret not...for a few pesos you can shore up the rear end and you'll have an incredible tow vehicle...if that is what you desire.
Payload however cannot be ignored...these trucks LACK usable payload due to their heavy nature from all the extra glass and sheet metal. A SD is a better TV IMO however an Ex CAN be an awesome TV for a small to medium size family with a large trailer or a large family with a smaller trailer.
I know both of those statements in that last paragraph sound bass akwards but it is true...if you have a large family...you will eat up all your payload and be at or near your Ex's GVWR before hitching up your trailer...
So what is your intended usage of the Ex?
I'm an Ex man thru and thru...but she does have her limitations in the towing arena to not exceed Ford ratings...
You may want to post a separate thread asking for an Oasis report as it might get missed buried in this thread...and when someone responds with the Oasis report...send them some REPS!...
Good luck and let us know your intentions with the Ex...they are awesome vehicles and the 7.3L is an AWESOME motor...and that's coming from a V10'r!
Looks like a good deal to me. I bought mine with 123,000 for about the same $$ 3 years ago. There will be some maint issues as with any vehicle with this mileage but overall mine is a very solid vehicle driven frequently. I have now put about 30,000 miles on mine and it is not a primary vehicle.
