I never changed my argument. I have ALWAYS lumped the 60 and 70 together in the same boat. They are pretty much the same overall shape/design, which you and I have both agreed to.
My quote was a sarcastic stab at saying how similar most of these things are.
With the 70's larger ring gear - it is just slightly bigger than the 60. Overall same shape/design, just slightly larger. That is what I have said 3-4 times in this long arsed debackle... However (and you will LOVE this), that larger ring gear seems to make the bottom smoother - like you have been saying and posted pictures of.
My aregument on this has been coming from the overall size and diference in height/length that the center section hangs down below the bottom of the axle tubes. NOT how smooth it is. Yes the 70u's seem to be smoother on the bottom than the 60 (most) and 14b. Does smoother = greater ground clearance? I guess in some people's book.
i have a question, i just bought a 79 ford f150, with the rear end out. I believ its all stock except for the lift and the 460 motor. The tires on this truck are 39.5. Im wondering what the best option for me to do now with the gears and the axles, as opposed to fixing the rear end which will probably break again. So what would you do considering the lug patterns and if you could keep them or have to change them with a swap... Just wondering thanx?
