yea i hate looking threw 5 threads about the same thing and i was not trying to make it sound bad *** i am just saying that they are cappable of way more then 1000-1200 degress that everyone swears by and if you run it at 1200 degress for a min it is toast is bull cause it would of never been set from the factory to run that hot

the idi i had in my 73 before i upgraded to a powerstroke i use to run hard around 1500-1600 degress and 17psi of boost and when i blew up the injection pump i tore the engine down to look at the pistons thinking they would of been shot with the edges melted and maybe lots of cracks but they looked like new and only one had a crack about an inch long and i was amazed there was not one peace after going up the pass the last time, did love the idi

Random question.

Is there any way of telling if an engine has been damaged by high EGT's without removing the heads?

Like is it gonna sound weird idling, skip, miss, shake, etc.?

Unless you look in with a bore scope to inspect the piston tops, the only real way of knowing is pulling the heads. All your other symptoms could also be so many other things like injectors, IP, low compression, ect.

missing blowby that puffs in rithem with one cylinder.

They will missand have low compression on the affected cylinders(not all will be melted or scored) unless someone is a complete idiot.

Grown up diesels will pull a liner which you will know immediately from the noise and the water in the oil pan. lol

If a pyro is reading 1480 for any lenght of time, you need a new pyro.

OK, i think this is Very important tread, I been messing with the fuel screw trying to get between 400 to 700 in my 1994 Idi turbo (stock), i got it in that range but my cold start is no good and is not having good boost or power , i Saw raising 900s when i was in a flat road, speeding from stops, ho!! feels good that heavy truck move fast, i have it 2 flats or 1/4 turn before max at that time, i have at this moment 6 flats or 3/4 before max and i can see is not ideal to my cold start, now i saw this tread and i am glad i can turn it more, i saw on Youtube someone saying the right temperature is in between 400f to 600f, now i know he may have it somewhere else but not on the exhaust headers, yes i have that egt sensor in between the 8 cylinder and the junction to the cross pipe, I am thinking getting it at 3 flats before max. please excuse my broken English
