Hello! I have a 2007 Ranger 4x4 w/ the 4.0L and an Automatic (5R55E) 36,500 miles. I am having an issue with downshifting. I am not certain at what speed it takes place but I'd say between 30-45. Okay, scenario.... I'm driving in town at about 35 mph and i need to get around a slow driver. So naturally, I push the accelerator to the floor. And this is where it slowly builds RPM's, for about 3-5 secs, to probably about 4000 or so (sorry I'm not sure, I'm usually mad that is won't shift so I'm not paying attention to specifics.) and then VIOLENTLY shifts to second and quickly into third and so on. Just wondering why it has to build the RPM's before the downshift? It doesn't do this everytime, but more often than not. Any ideas? thanks for reading!!
Kinda sounds like you may have some internal tranny gum, varnish, or sludge deposits hanging things up.
Maybe consider a dose of Seafoam Trans Tune & see if the shifting improves or the hanging up down shift stops, then do a tranny pan drop, filter change & continue on with a full fluid pump out.
