08 f250?????????????????

i just picked up my brand new o8 f250 deisel and in the 2 weeks that i have had it the cleaning exhaust filter thing has come on 5 times and one day had stayed on for the hole day that i used it cuz i could not let it run through. but every time it comes on it stays on for about 40 mins. has anyone had this problem, i kno its needs to do this but my dad has the same truck and his dont go off as much no were near asmuch.

so if anyone could tell me what to do to make it not happens as much(or not at all) or juss make it last only 5 or 10 mins instead

Depending on how many miles you have driven, this could be normal. 200-400 miles between cycles is considered normal. Remember, idling, short trips and city driving will cause more frequent regens.
Cheers

what job is your truck? Or tell us when it was built. You can find this on the sticker inside the drivers door. If it is a early build you may want to get the latest computer flash for your truck.

In my opinion you need to live with it for a while, break it in, and work it pretty hard. It should settle down or you will find out that there is a problem. Either way you're covered.

Deershooter,

Have you had it for a good long highway ride yet? If not I would recommend taking it out for a trip on the highway at about 75mph for at least 30 minutes and let it go through all it needs to.

The more posts I see like yours and people losing power I am really starting to think the 6.4 needs to be run hard from time to time in order to keep it in tip top shape. I always run mine towing or fast highway miles and I have never had a problem.

I really think the 6.4 was designed to be a work beast and that is what it does best.

Mine is definitely that way. Every couple of months mine starts to complain that it needs a marathon. Sluggish, weak, etc. I know if I can get it for a 3 hour run up to Fargo and back or down to South Dakota it will be good to go again. I don't know why but it does make a huge difference for this machine.

Alright!! I am 89% convinced now that this is true.

I believe that the 6.4 was absolutely designed to be a work horse(look at the freaking radiators for peep's sake) Did I just say peep's? Anyway, I really think that if the 6.4 is not worked hard every once and a while(do not know what time period we are talking yet) it gets sluggish like it needs to be revived.

What do y'all think????

I couldnt agree more. I just got the reflash done so now I will be able to track my regens a little closer (I dont feel any difference when its in regen). I recently posted about a loss in power and there are some indications that its because I have only been using the truck for daily commuting instead of working it. My truck ran better when I was towing all summer long than it does now just cruising the mall parking lots. I have never seen a 40 minute regen. I noticed tonight that even when I came to a stop the regen message was still displayed but it isnt actually doing anything until you are above 30 mph (before someone with a job 1 truck disputes this the OP said he had the most recent flash so he shouldnt be in active regen under 30 "according to Ford"). So I think your regen is starting and stopping. Your message may be displayed for 40 minutes but I highly doubt you are actually in an active regen that whole time. If you told me you maintained 70 mph on the hwy the entire 40 minutes then that would be a completely different story.

Lets try to make it 100% convinced. Have you ever listened to two motors side by side? One that is worked hard and the other not?

There is a difference. Hook that thing up to something and put it to the floor and run it up a hill or two. That should help.

Deershooter, put your Dads truck on a car hauler and go for a ride. It is past the 500 mile break in so run it. I think you will see a change.

I like the positive attitudes here. caprang really got me to overthink my engine too, just like he admits doing himself. I drove around town this morning without a trailer and tried to get boost, could not get more than 20 today. It's 26 outside so I am wondering if that is why? I'll know more in a few hours, taking a 390 mile run up to Lexington, KY without hauling a trailer. It's only the second time I have ever driven the truck on the interstate without a trailer! Can't wait to see the MPG, etc....

stay away from bio diesel. Had to get a tank in IL back in Dec and my MPG's went way way down. Didn't help that it was -1 outside either.

all the diesels i have had run better if it is run for long periods of time, from time to time. not just 6.4 but also true with my 7.3. also when mine regens at lower speeds it will regen sooner. sometime within a couple 100 mile from the last one. but when it regens on the interstate it lasts a long time. regen last 20min @70mph. have been 600 mile between regens, maybe longer. that is the longest one i remember. i also run fuel additive in every tank. suppost to help with smoke. even the 40mph regens don't last that long.

Question about Job #2 vs Job #3 Build Identifier. I'm getting a 6.4 this weekend and should I avoid Job #2 trucks?
