Truck runs weel and starts great, but the MIL (check engine light) comes on.
Here's what happens;
I glow the truck, crank the starter and it fires up nicely. It will run smooth for 20 - 25 secs, then the rpms pick up slightly, the MIL comes on and the engine runs kinda rough.
Mine does the same thing. I get the CEL when cold, the it high idles. Every now and then it will give me a code about exhaust backpresure(EBPV is unplugged). CEL goes out after 10-20 seconds, but even after getting warm the idle still goes up and down( can't see it on the tach but can hear it in the engine)
Your code reader may not be able to read diesel, most don't. It's been my experience that if the light is lit, there is a code. Maybe it is stored as a soft code...again the scanner may not be able to read it.
sounds quite similar.
I havent had my truck out for a run, 'cept 10k to bring it home. So i dont know it the light will go out, but sitting in my yard it will not go out.

x2------what scanner are you useing? I just ran out and scanned mine and I have two P0476 (Exhaust Pressure Control Valve Performance) codes stored.
Inova (Equus) 3120 and a 1303.
Same result with both.
Garage around the corner from me will scan it tomorrow for $30.
The 3120 will scan both the M & K codes diesels (IDI, & Turbo IDI) but not the F code (PSD), the one you have.
Don't know about the 1303.
Some autozones can scan a PSD for free but it's a crap-shoot. Some do, some don't know how.
Autoenginuity all the way, I opted the high end model so I can fix all those "other" cars
Very steep learning curve but well worth the effort.
BTW: I use a laptop but You don't need one with the bluetooth connector (Big $$$), you just gotta get the car close enough to it....500ft without obstructions and up to 100ft with obstructions.
Try the scangauge. terminator engineering has them. I think $220 (don't really know, been to long) Reads codes, buzz test cylinder contribution, and displays all the sensors the pcm reads. and all this in a 2-1/8" gauge .
