if u search u are going to find tons of arguments... i tried Ranchos...the good ones...ok ride, but got noisy after 10k miles... now i have Bilsteins. DO NOT MESS AROUND on this one, there is one answer... get the BILSTEINS! of all the $$ ive put into all my cars... bilsteins are the best investment.
The first week will the Bilsteins will feel firm, because they are compared to the flacid stock stuff. The more you drive it, the more you will realize they are perfectly calibrated for our heavy trucks. So I agree with everyone; change them once and do it right.
I use Monroe Reflex shocks. They are guaranteed for life. My 99 has 171K on it and have replaced the shocks once since the first Monroes were installed. The only reason I replaced them was they had been on for about 70K and thought it was time and the price was right. 0$$$
I put Bilstein's on mine, and changed out the rear sway bar, and got a totally different truck out of it. Wow what a difference. 7000lbs. needs all the help it can get. Much better response, and the truck felt out of control before on rough roads, but not any longer. After 10-15k they will soften some, but they are still pretty stiff.
